“Apollo 11: Footprints on the Moon”
On July 20, 1969, astronauts Neil Armstrong and “Buzz” Aldrin walked on the Moon while their crewmate Michael Collins circled above. Learn about the challenge set by President John F. Kennedy in 1961 to reach the Moon by the end of the decade, the rocket and spacecraft developed to get us there, and the people that made his goal a reality.
“Wiley Post: Aviation Pioneer”
Wiley Post (1898—1935) of Oklahoma was one of the most famous pilots of the 1930’s, well known for his flights in a Lockheed Vega named, “The Winnie Mae.”Learn about Wiley Post’s flights around the world and how he later developed the first pressure suit and discovered the jet stream. Amelia Earhart said of her friend Wiley, “So close was he to his profession that he could not know the sheen on his own wings.”
“Will Rogers’ U.S.A”
Will Rogers’ (1879-1935) wisecracking, folksy humor and topical philosophical observations made him one of America’s most popular entertainers throughout the long days of the Great Depression. In Will Rogers’ U.S.A., actor Rob Cork aptly recreates the rope-twirling and slyly grinning comedian in select moments from some of his most characteristic and strikingly relevant stage and radio performances.
